Successful CP Interview, POE - November - New Delhi

Hi All -

Pleased to inform all that my CP interview (Mid November) at the US Embassy in New Delhi was successful and I entered the US this week.

Everything went very smooth except for the long waits at each step. Had my medicals done from Appollo, photos from Rama Studio. We had a company name change this year while my I-140 was in process. I had applied for CP based on the I-140 with the old company name and hence was fearing. But no questions asked. I had also filed for another I-140 with the new comapny name, which got approved days before my CP interview. But fortunately, I did not have to talk about it during the interview. No name check process, received passports in three working days.

The new thing I can say was that I was issued a Visa stamp on the passport instead of the I-551 rubber stamp. Not sure if that is new to all or just me.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions for me.

I would like to thank each and every member of this portal for their valuable contribution towards my GC. I am extremely thankful to all the members and specially to the senior members for the information that I received from their postings.

Having said that I have a question - The immigrant visa that was pasted to my passport is valid till May 2005, but the stamp at the POE has a date till Dec 2005. I was told that based on the stamp at POE I can travel in and out for the next one year till I get my physical card. I am confused as the Visa stamp is valid till May while the immigration stamo is till Dec 05. Which one is the valid date?

Thanks

Congratulations on your success!

Not having seen an actual MRV I am assuming that the validity date you see in the visa pasted in your passport is the time given for you to enter US as
a permanent resident. (You have already fulfilled this by entering US).

The validity date written at the POE is the validity of the I-551 stamp and
serves as proof of your PR status till you receive your actual plastic card.

It's the POE date.

The date on the MRV is the date upto which you can enter the US. After that your application will be voided.

But since U already entered US, U are fine. The stamp is valid 1 year from the date of POE.

Hey Raju and Alren -

Thanks for the information.

Hi r_sada -

Case sent to NVC: Mid July
NVC completed processing: August 17
Case sent to Consulate: August 28
Interview date declared: Oct 12
Interview date: Mid November

I carried all the documents I had. The comprehensive list of documents is available on this forum. The US Consulate sends you a list of documents that they require along with the appointment letter. I had created one folder for those documents and then had carried a folder for each of the other documents. the documents that were collected from me at the embassy were -

Passport
Photo
Biographic Forms (DS 230s)
Birth Certificates
Affidavits in support of birth certs
Police Clearance Certificates
Employment Letter
Marriage Certificate
Medical Exam Results
Tax Transcripts

I think I remember correctly. Besides these I had carried lots of other documents like pay stubs, affidavit of financial support, bank letters, bank statements, education records, employment records, visa records, housing records, drivers license, SSN card, medical records, company information, wedding photos, wedding invitation, original tax documents etc.

I carried all these to cover the "just in case factor" but was only asked for the documents I listed above.

Thanks

Employment support letter

Tumpi, Alren, (or anyone who's gone through the process)

Have a quick question about the notarized employment support letter from the current employer. Do we need just one original letter or two sets of originals?

The reason I'm asking this is that one of the threads which has a comprehensive compilation of the documents required during interview, lists the Original and Notarized Employment Support letter TWICE.

As always, thanks much!

Thanks Tumpi

IFL,

One is enough. If you can manage keep a spare.

I had carried two sets of the employment letter because my lawyer had asked me to. According to them, 2 are required. But at the consulate I was asked to produce just one. So, i agree with Alren, carry two if you can manage.

Tumpi

I'm sure the letter of the copy of it is in the visa packet to be presented at POE, but It would be safe have a orig/copy on hand out there.

Hi Tumpi:

Congratulations on your successful interview. Can u please post the kind of questions you were asked during the interview. I am planning to go the CP route, and since I will be interviewing at the delhi consulate, I want to understand the interview process better.

Regards
EFI

Thanks EFI. The consular who intervied us was a young american lad, 25-30 yrs old. When we reached the window he had already approved the case, but while he was doing the formalities he asked two questions in a very light spirit.
1. How am i using my academic background (MS not in Comp Sc) in my IT Consulting job
2. To my wife - how did we get married.

Thanks

>>> u have written Police clearance certificateS. how many PCC u carried? and from what places?
I thought if you are an Indian passport holder living in USA, then you only need a PCC from the local Indian Embassy in USA.
would you clarify this?
.

Hi J1 Victim -

You are correct. I carried only one PCC per person. The plural was for me and my wife.

Thanks

Hi, and Congratulations.

when you said "Case sent to NVC: Mid July", what is actually sent? the I864? the DS-230? or both?... and who sent it? an attorney? the sponsor?

thanks for clearing it up.

P.S. NVC seems to be very efficient on processing things... yours took just 5 months. That's really good.
