Thanks to all the help from this forum, our (wife and myself) CP at Mumbai was successful on Jan 24th. I will only post differential or additional information (I have a very slow connection) but will be happy to answer specific questions.

Medical test (Hinduja):

Going earlier than 7am was not fruitful, as they open the counters sharp at 7. They require a copy of the passport. There were only four applicants for medical. We were asked to return to the first floor and wait in the common waiting room(instead of directly going to the third floor). There was a female doctor performing checks both for male and female patients. I had a slight fever from shots for the next three days or so

Interview:

We were admitted to the consulate half an hour before the appointment instead of 15 minutes. There is a lot of additional security around the consulate after the kolkatta attacks, however the security inside did not seem any different. We had prepared the documentation based on legendary srifix mail. They allowed us to carry thick opaque plastic shopping bags inside. The pleasant lady at window 10 collected documentation. I did not have a translation for my Marathi NAC. She then went inside and called up someone. I was asked to write up an English translation on the back of the NAC and that seemed to satisfy her. She took only father\'s affidavit (original) in addition to NAC copy and returned mother\'s affidavit back. We were asked to cross out the US address on the DS230-part I form and write up local(indian) address. Since our visa\'s had expired she asked us for H1 extension notices. She did not ask us for any PCC (the only question she asked was - did you stay more than a year in another country?). We had spent enormous time on both local and CGNY PCCs and my wife said later she was tempted to ask her to take them anyway!! No bank statements or tax returns or pay stubs.

The American consular officer said to come back and collect visa packets at 3. Based on previous experiences we went there at 4:10, they were already handing out packets back and we got ours in less than 10 minutes. A happy end to a five-year long journey.

POE and the Permanent Address in the US where you intend to live?

Does the POE have to be necessarily the same as the Permanent Address in the US where you intend to live. (Point 10 in DS 230 Part I). Where do you mention the POE in the United States? Do you do it at the interview or later on you decide based on your tickets to which destination you are going to go?

Please reply.

Thanks.

Do you have to take photcopies of all certificates and letters that you take for the IV interview?

Hi, Did you have to take photocopies of all letters, certificates and documentation for the IV interview? Do the consular officers take any original or Photocopies and keep it with them?

Thanks.

I would appreciate if you reply to my 2 questions!

Successful interview on Jan 23 at Mumbai

We had a successful interview on Jan 23.

Medicals were performed at Breach Candy hospital. It was pretty OK. We had to go by 7:00am and stand in the line. Then pay Rs 1400 for each applicant, get the bloodtest and XRays done. Then all the applicants are goaded to a different waiting room, where depending on your doctor\'s availability, you get the vaccinations done.
We had to go around 3pm to pick up the reports.

The interview was probably the smoothest. I entered at 9am for the 9:30am appointment. We were called promptly at 9:30am for collection of the documents. We had to wait hardly an hour before the consular officer called us.
He just asked us raise the hands, and we took the oath.
He asked me to sign the DS-230 part II and IRS-9003, and as we were leaving, he asked me where I stayed in Philadelphia. He said he had grown up near where I had stayed and bnid us good luck!

PCC was not asked for, but is mandatory from Feb 1.

Sorry for the delay in replying - I was travelling back to US

The consulate officer took originals for employment letter (myself), IRS 9003(myself and wife), affidavit of support(wife), DS230 part II (myself and wife), father affidavit regarding BC(myself), Medical report(myself and wife). She took copies of NAC(myself), BC(wife), Marriage certificate(myself and wife), DS230 part I(myself and wife). The cashier took a copy of appointment letter as we were paying for the $260 demand drafts.

We had all the originals with us, but she did not ask to see any of them.

I am not sure I understand the question regarding POE and permanent address being the same. AFAIK, we did not mention POE anywhere.

We paid by DD, you can pay by USD cash, however they accept only bills upto $50.

Another interesting thing - I noticed a clear written message at the immigration counter while leaving Mumbai, that Income Tax clearance or Police clearance is NOT required for leaving the country !!
