Hi
My interview was scheduled in Delhi on Dec 12th. I came to know about it around Nov 26th. Called my lawyer who sent me packet-4 next day. I called a travel agent for ticket on Nov 30th, got confirmed seats from SFO to New Delhi on China airlines and left for India on Dec 3rd reaching New Delhi on evening of Dec 5th.
Went to US Embassy on Dec 6th at 3 pm to collect my interview letter. The clerk at information window gave me a packet 4 and wrote down my case number and date of appt at the top of it. That\'s what\'s they call an appointment letter ! When he saw my wife with me, he handed me another packet-4 and told me that my status with Consulate is Single because NVC had sent my status as Single. That was news to me because I had filled my packet-3 with my wife (tho my I-140 was approved as Single). He then told me that I can still come with my wife on the day of interview but it will take another 2 weeks for her visa to be issued as consulate takes 2 weeks for a name to be cleared from somewhere in Washinton D.C.
We went to Dr Jain\'s office in South Ex-II at 9:00 am on Dec 7th. We had to wait about 30 mins and then the medical took about 30 mins. He gavce us a few shots and sent us to another place in Defence Colony in New Delhi for X-Rays. On the way, we went to Kumar Studio in South Ex-II (very close to Dr Jain\'s office) and took immigration photos. X-Ray also took only couple of minutes and they said they\'ll directly send the report to Dr Jain. We went to Dr. Jain in the evening at 5:00 pm on same day and they handed us sealed medical reports and X-Rays. Also collected the immigration Photos from Kumar Studio on the same day.
On the day of the interview, we reached the embassy at about 7:50 am. Stood in line outside the embassy for couple of mins and then we were sent inside. People for immigration visa were asked to form a line. We went to window 15 where we were asked to sign on DS 230 Part II and given a number for queue to pay Visa Fees. We paid the fees at our turn and were asked to take a seat in the waiting area. My name was called at around 12:00 noon. The window clerk was polite and took DS-230 I and II, IRS-9003, copies on marrige certificate and birth certificates, medical reports for both of us, my Employment letter and I-134. He then told us to come back at 4:30 pm and collect the Visas. This time, he didn\'t mention that my status was single and my wife\'s visa will take another 2 weeks. ( I guess the people at information window who I talked to while taking appointment letter on Dec 6th may not have access to all the information. )
We went back to embassy at 4:30 and were weated in the waiting area. My name was called after about half an hour. We were told that our visas are almost ready but some formality is still left to be completed (some signing authority must have taken off early) and we should come back at 4:30 pm on next day. We got our visas next day and we were told to present the X-Rays to Immigration at port of entry.
We hand carried the X-Rays (they were too big to fit in my hand bag) to SFO but there we were told that they are not needed. My address in the Visa that Embassy gave me was my current address in the US even tho I had filled a different mailing address (DS 230 part II). The immigration officer at SFO told me that my green card will be sent to the address in the Visa. He also asked me if I want to give a new address. I told him the mailing address (same that I filled in 230 II, of my uncle who lives in LA ). He told me that he can\'t put in this mailing address and that he can only put in a new address where I will be living next (I\'m not sure if that\'s a rule or was the mood of the officer at that time). So I had to leave my current address there. If someone knows how can I change the mailing address (where green card will be sent) now, please let me know.
People have been very helpful to me on immigrationportal.com . Thanks alot to all of you.
