Hi Guys.
I just returned from India after CP at Chennai.
Got the I-551 stamping done at POE.
The entire process is easier than I thought it to be.
Got my lister-lab tests and the medical
examination (Dr. Vijayalakshmi) done on the same day
(on the 19th of November).
Stayed at Hotel Maris, took ADIT photos at Camera City opposite
Chola Sheraton - 1hour, took bank drafts at Indian
bank (4 buildings left of Camera City) - 30 minutes.
Auto fares from Hotel Maris:
To Lister Labs - Rs.20 to Rs.25.
To Dr. Vijayalakshmi\'s clinic - Rs.30 to Rs.35.
To the consulate - Rs.15 to Rs.20.
There is a good Andhra restuarant, Hotel Amaravathi, near
Hotel Maris, and this is open till late in the nite.
The interview was on the 23rd November. We can carry non-transparent
bags into the consulate, but they check the bags before letting you in.
No need to go to the consulate before 8 am.
The interview is just a verification of the documents you
submitted with no verbal interaction except when
he asked us to pay the issuance fee.
Received the passport the following day by Blue dart.
POE was on the 2nd of December. The immigration officer
took the finger prints and signatures, and then asked
a couple of questions (which company I work for, and
if my company spent lots of bucks for getting me in,
and finally congratulating us for the GC).
The officer was a little testy when taking the finger prints.
Make sure you are relaxed, and let the officer control
the finger print process (no blots, no double prints,
clear ridges etc..needed for the finger print).
The officer yelled at a couple of people while taking the prints.
Things to do after coming back:
(*) Apply for reimbursement of visa application and issuance fee
(if your company reimburses these expenses).
(*) Report and send copies of the I-551 stamp to the HR and attorney
(*) Complete the I-9 form
(*) Apply for ssn
Best of luck for other CPers.
