Hi everybody,
My wife and I had a successful AC 140 interview at New Delhi on 12/23/04 and re-entered USA via Minneapolis yesterday. I would recommend everyone to use the CP process, especially all ex-J1 physicians.
Details are:
140 ND (EB2, Physician, non-NIW) : 11/17/03
140 AD : 7/21/04
Date AC-140 package reached Embassy: 9/2/04
Date case number assigned : 9/21/04 (approx.)
Interview : 12/23/04
Passports received (with Immigrant Visa stamp): 12/28/04
Total time from first arrival in USA to GC = 10 years

Thanks to Rajiv Khanna and to every participant in his chat forum for giving me all the info I needed. Also, thanks to the creator of the website "Immihelp.com".

Congratulations.

Enjoy your freedom from J 1 brutality and waiver traps.
Now you can have your own practice and hire more MDs with J1/ H1B
with fair deal to them.

10 years is little long. did you do fellowship after your residency?

i have seldom seen your posts at the *physicians* forum. Hey, we all would benefit from your experience over there. So switch over to that forum. :p
There are many J1/H1s who need expert help.
send me an email at j1victim at yahoo dot com
.

J1 victim,

10 yrs. is not that long. Esp. if the person has come to US on F1 or something like that.

Successful Cp/ac-140 New Delhi

Hi folks,
Just returned from successful CP at NWD, very smooth, no questions, no issues. Smooth POE @ Detroit. I will furnish details this evening, but do want to thank everyone on this portal, very helpful site indeed!

One thing: the most important thing in my opinion is to show up at the Consulate ASAP after your arrival in India to "report" yourself for FBI name-check, so that process can be started in advance prior to your actual interview. Alternatively, you can also e-mail the consulate @ ivnd@state.gov. I did both, hence no delay for name check and they acknowledged that it helped!! :)

More later!

Potential could you please give more details on following two point. Seniors also please comment:

A] One thing: the most important thing in my opinion is to show up at the Consulate ASAP after your arrival in India to "report" yourself for FBI name-check.

What did you exactly do. Just showed up at consulate get and asked for FBI check, or there was a procedure for it.

B] Alternatively, you can also e-mail the consulate @ ivnd@state.gov.

What was content of email.
What do you exactly request.
What was consulate's reply.
Anybody else has any experience with this?

A ] Mine is a regular CP case and my understanding is that NVC does the name check for a regular CP case while the Consulate does the same for an AC140 case.

I am a little confused.

cp at delhi

GreenMD :
1. I don't know for sure the difference between NVC and AC-140 cases in terms of who does the FBI name check. I do know that a name check is required/done everytime one enters India nowadays.

2. In Delhi, between 2-3pm everyday, one can approach the consular officials personally inside the embassy if you have the appt. letter etc. to clarify any issues. The "packet-4" that i was issued carried a page which instructed to either come in personally or e-mail the consulate as soon as I arrived/physically landed in Delhi, so the FBI name check could be started. Hence I showed up at that window in the consulate on the first working day after my arrival and told them that I was there to "report" my arrival in India!! They didn't seem to understand at first, then I shoved their own instruction sheet in front of them and it took 2 people to figure out why I was there, but once they did, they promised me that they would send it out for name check that same day! In the interim, I had also e-mailed the consulate regarding the same.

3. In the e-mail I simply stated that I had arrived in India via flight # so and so and that my appointment was scheduled @ .....date and ...time. I requested that they initiate the FBI name check ASAP so that that process could be done by the time my interview comes up hence avoiding any delays in my departure. Apparently they did it and had the FBI response by the time I showed up for interview. Otherwise it would have taken a week or so from the date of my interview and then another 2-3 days for the courier, I simply didn't have that kind of time at my disposal. The consulate only sent an "automated" response, but at the time of interview they acknowledged that they had received my e-mail and had noted my physical visit and had since received the response from FBI which would expedite my case processing. I was impressed that for once the system seemed to have worked, hence wanted to share this experience with all of you.

cp delhi

I just typed the entire details but the %&### computer logged me out, so it was lost. i am in no mood to re-type just yet, hence if anyone has any specific questions, i would be happy to answer.

Congrats Potential,
I am applying for AC140 as well. wanted to know How long the consulate takes after accepting the case to set an interview date?? My case was accepted by BMB in 2nd week of DEC and they have not given me a date yet?
Thanks

Thanks Domplo,
It took just under 3 months for interview after case acceptance. This was during the Holidays, yours may be slightly quicker. Keep calling the consulate, i didn't even receive the packet 4 !!

Thanks Potential.
I will try calling. Does the consulate do any kind of processing/verification after accepting the case for AC140 or is it just a question of them setting an interview date after the Visa Bulletin is out each month?
