We got our H1 & H4 revalidated at Vancouver consulate on the 21st.

To summarize my experience there ;

Looks like they WANT TO gove you the visa, unless YOU make some foolish mistake and are not prepared well OR as I heard and read from many, you are stuck for name check and all. ALmost evryone got visa on that day, even those with complicated cases and even those who did not know thw basic rules.

I'll be happy to answer any specific questions from fellow members!

Basic Rules

even those who did not know thw basic rules----
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you please elaborate what you mean by basic rules.thanks

What I mean is there were some people who didn't even have their forms properly filled in. some were sent away to correct some information more than once. some i saw were dressed like they were coming straight out of a fight :)

if you think your case is a straight-forward one and there is nothing to hide, you'll definitely get it.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. Do you have US degree or non-US degree. What i came to know that if you have US degree, you have more successful rate.

Please let me know.

Here's my detailed information:

Non-US bachelors degree
5 years in US.
Previous Visa still valid upto 9/30/2006 with the same employer.
Working with the same employer for 3 years.
The stamping was for 6th and 7th year (Also recaptured time I spent outside USA)
My employer had just sent my I-140 application out last week, So I put in 'Yes' for the question 'Has anyone filed an immigration petition on yout behalf".

Again, there is absolutely no need to worry (I worried a lot, almost dropped the idea of going to Vancouver a night before).
the Visa officers there knew all about H1 extensions beyond 6th year, all J1-to H1, H4 to H1 etc

Only thing I noticed was that they asked a lot of question to anyone who was there for first time H1s, but did not deny anyone.

I think I wasted a lot of time and energy worrying about it than I did preparing for it.

Just have all you docs ready with you.

Must haves(What they ask before you even see the VO):
Passports
I-797 for H1B (they don't ask it for H4 if accompanied by H1 applicant)
DS-156
Ds-157(if applicable)
Employment letter
Cash

Everything else is upto the VO and your case....

but keep atleast

Paystubs, Marriage certificates and degree certificates with you. for first time H1 applicants, good to keep an educational evaluation..

Good luck

H1B visa revalidation at Vancouver!

Hello Bomber,
I have a dumb question.

You probably applied for Canadian tourist visa inorder to go to Vancouver right?

When did you schedule your interview date for Sep 21st?The reason I am asking this qn is because i would like to get a visa appt date sometime in the second week of December.

Currently I see on nvars.com that all appts for the next 8 weeks have been booked at the Vancouver US embassy.

Your response would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dear Bomber,
Do you know if anyone on that day was required to wait for the name check?

No one to my knowledge. They had about 100 apointments on that day. for the purpose of posting the maximum information for fellow members, I even counted the number of people who came back to collect thier Visas the next day. I counted 93 for sure and there were still some standing in the line outside whoc could not fit in the room. When I got out of the building after collecting our passports, I was 2 persons still outside who were not able to get in to collect their passports as they had cell phones and other stuff and were not able to find someone who could keep their stuff,
So My guess is : If not everyone, 'Almost' everyone got it on that day!

Yes, I did apply for a Canadian visa, but that was about a year ago. I applied for it as I live close to the Canadian border and have been there a few times since then.

For scheduling an appointment for Visa interview, you need to wait until 8 weeks before the date you want, and then keep looking at the appointment calender page every few minutes as the appointments run out very fast. You should be okay for a December appointment. My guess is there would be less pressure on visa dates for december as not many people would like to visit Canada in winter.

Can you share what they asked in the interview and what documents were you asked for in the interview.
thanks in advance

when you get inside the consulate, you are asked to get the following documents ready for the cashier. the cashier will take these documents and forward them for processing.
1) Passport(s)
2) DS-156 (with one photo) for each applicant
3) DS-157(If applicable)
4) I-797 (Only for H1 applicant, not asked for H4 applicant)
5) Employment letter
6) Cash - $100 per person

These are an absolute must. Everything other than these may or may not be asked by the Visa officer at the time of the interview.

I was asked only 2 basic questions :
1) What does your company do?
2) What kind of clients your company has

I saw some guys being asked the following documents

- Recent paystubs - mainly first time H1s
- Degree certificates, transcripts - mainly from F1 and F1 to H1s

I did not see any one being asked anythign other than these, but would suggest to carry everything you have

Birth
Marriage
Education
Work experience
Pay stubs
Proof of address
Bank statements
All I-797s you have
All I-94s you have
Kids' Birth certificates
Old expired passports
etc..

It's always good to carry ALL your documents with you just in case you get asked OR in case you get denied and have to travel to hoem country. you might be asked. for married guys, Although I-797 for the H4 dependent is not asked at the interview, you need it to get back to US at the border.

Why take a chance, just keep everything ABOUT you WITH you.

Another thing, the whole interview process would be much smoother if you dont carry any - belts, cellphones, PDAs, other electronic devices, beverage cups or bottles, sealed envelopes, bags etc. you don't want to be pushed to the back of the line and waste 30 minutes or more than you should have.

good luck

Hotel near vancouver consulate

Hi Tuvar,
Well I visited Vancouver 2 weeks back. Went for VISA Revalidation at US Consulate

There is one Days Inn and Ramada on Kingsway (major street in vancouver) both around 10-15 min drive time from Consulate, fairly cheap as compared to downtown hotels next to consulate.

best of luck
