I had this question at the back of my mind all this time and searched for an answer, but couldnt find any. I know the gurus here can answer this one.
I know a lot of ppl here (including me) who do not have their original birth certificates to submit a copy with form I-485. That brings up the purpose of getting notarized affidavits from parents and other relatives from the country of birth. This kinda solves the problem for I-485, but the original affidavit needs to be submitted along with the application.
And in the future, if there is a need for the birth certificate again (lets say you are getting your parents to the USA and you need your birth certificate to fill I-134), a fresh set of affidavits need to be prepared by the parents and relatives.
My question is, Is there a document issued here that could be used as substitute for birth certificate? It is a hassle to get notarized affidavits from the country of birth every time the birth certificate is needed.
Also, does anyone know which other forms, like the I-485, expect a copy of the original birth certificate to be submitted? Thanks in advance!
