Stunning proposal from USCIS

In a stunning proposal, USCIS is planning to start same day filing and interview for all family based and lottery based I-485 petitions. The plan is to start from Dallas center on Apr 13th 2004. The plan also includes extending the pilot program nationwide and also include employment based I-485 petitions as well.

Read the News ticker section of www.shusterman.com for more details.

Wow

From what I can see on Shusterman if the pilot works then they will extend it to EB cases.

I am torn between thinking that this is a great initiative and wondering what the hell the last 2 years have been all about for me. I feel great that 'new' people will be spared the wasted time that most of us have been through, but also a little like they have not 'made their bones'. I know it is a stupid feeling, but it is one that I will find difficult to shake.

It is a welcome and bold move

But what about us waiting in this frozen state. One of the reasons for making this my home country was that the laws were sensible. USCIS has turned that notion on its head.

Let's wait

I think USCIS will come up with something so that applicants who already filed their cases with service centers can also avail of this oppurtunity. It's not that easy for USCIS to ignore millions of applicants waiting for years. Most likely, they would just mail all the applications to local offices and then notify us to use the infopass to take appointment and go for the interview with the case receipts we got. That sounds sensible for me. Anyway, this is my personal opinion. Let's wait and see.

I hear ya, Paul. If it happens, its great for all the new guys, and good luck to them, but does make you feel like you've been cheated. In my case, back in early 2002 I was even thinking I'd be approved by June or July. Most Sept 01 cases WERE approved in 2002, and here I am still waiting.

Vote banks?

Most if not all the people whose application can be sponsored would be from the neighbouring countries, mostly south of the border. Nothing aganist them when they are trying to join their families here; but it is going to cause back logs to existing applicants in the queue including the EB 485 applicants. They intend to extend the program for the existing family based applicants in the pool (following the pilot program).

I do not see how they would extend this program to EB cases. EB applicants have little or no support from any of the constituents in the community. We can continue to fret in the chambers here but the situation is not going to change for us.

Folks,

I think Mr. Perkash Khatri advised that or part of it. so hopefully he has something else in mind to do for EB cases. I just like to think something positive today.

Does anyone know what Rajiv is thinking about this? and what is his future plan or how he is going to deal with BCIS?

I think I am wondering about the next step.

One has to be really naive to think they may extend this to EB. They are doing this for election year. "Family" base has the vote. All of us have to remember how republican treated us in case we have the voting right, someday.

I don't beleive this...

They made it sound like a walk in the park. Like anything else, their intentions are good in the begining, but somewhere along the way they get lost in the beaurocratic mess and screw up the process.

Lets hope they stick to the plan this time.

This is nothing but shameless pandering for Hispanic votes in the election year. And we thought corrupt caste based polictics happens only in India!

Even if they extended this to everyone in the next couple years, it just means a longer processing time for our naturalization application... imagine the overload.

If they extend it to Emp based 485

I will contribute and campaign for President Bush.
How many of you join me in the election campaign? We can contribute much more than hispanics (or mexicans in texas).

It is illegal take contributions from a foreign national.

i think so they are worried what if the local offices dont have much stuff to do... possibly it will be outsourced.. so lets conduct interviews as fast as we can to make us valuable :)
