A frien asked me for help. He is here on a student visa and wants to marry his usc girlfriend. What does he need to file for?
And also, can he still travel home once they got married right away?

Thanks as always.

i-130, i-485, i-693, i-765 (to work), i-131 (to travel), i-864, g-325a.

He can not travel right away, he will have to wait about 90 days from filing date until he receives his "travel permit".

After getting married or after filing for Gc

You mean travel after getting married or after applying for adjustment of status? Please be clear.

I was never here on a student visa, so I did not know for sure if that would be the same. It was just a question, sorry for asking Praetorian!

Keila, Don't mind Prae ... he/she is one of our most knowledable people on this forum, and you will always get ALL the info you need from him/her. Pity you only apologised for asking, and didn't thank him for giving you the info.

basically, no matter what visa status you are to begin with, if you adjust status based on marriage to USC, you will need the same set of forms. if you go to the nearest office of US. Department of Homeland security, they will hand you the packet of forms and instructions, and you don't have to think or worry about missing anything.
but Praetorian gave all the form numbers that your friend will need. THANK YOU PRAE!

Travel: your friend can only travel once he/she is granted AP = Advance Parole = Travel permit, or the greencard itself. That process is min 2-3 months long.

See thats the friendly answer I was hoping for, thank you so much.
The apology was more sarcastic.

that's not true. If you come here on K-1, for example, and marry within 90 days, you don't need I-130.

the problem is that on average we see your exact questions asked about 2-3 times per week. The other problem is that people don't bother to at least look through the forum or do a search prior to asking the same questions, but they want us to retype the same answer over and over again - and be very polite and friendly while doing so.

whats your problem? If you dont want to answer than dont.
I was trying to do a friend a favor, the forum is to help eachother.

Favours, I don't know about that

You may be doing your friend a favour but at the same time irritating us too.
Who is that lazy friend of yours who can't ask his own questions here on the forum and please from next time try to look for topics that interests you and do some research before you type up a query/questions that has already been posted a million times before. Just a friendly advice, nothing personal.

I will do that the next time for sure, I really just wanted to help a fellow immigrant. Sorry this was so irritating on people for you guys. I will just recommend him a lawyer. He is not lazy by the way at all, he just did not know about the forum and I told him that I would ask here for him, since people seem competent and willing to help!
