Well, I dont know what to say but I still feel that priority date has something to do with when your I485 will be approved.
Or Else how do you expect that priority date will not be current for EB3 from Jan 2005.
For example:
if someone gets his I485 approved for 05/2002 then USCIS cannot set priority date for I485 prior to that because they have already approved a case with PD 05/2002.
To keep themselves away from such confusion, I guess CIS is approving I485 based on Priority dates (again sub categories like Country and EB2/EB3 also play some role). As many of us know that the visa numbers became current only when USCIS started using un-used visa numbers from other countries.
