What\'s the strategy of finding a good lawyer for EB-1?
the best one locally that you can meet him/her in person, or
a reputed one no matter where he/she is? Thanks

Tough question. Stick with the lawyer that was recommended to you by a trusted friend with a similar case.
If you don\'t have such one, go for a famous attorney.

My own research and common sense yielded bad choices. Twice... I considered myself a good researcher, but... :o(

Self applied I-140, got an RFE. Researched a lot and finally a attorney in NewYork, gave me the name of an attorney Jim Potemkin. Such a wonderful attorney. I had tough time asking him to do things when I wanted, but he had his own plan and he did it accordingly. He wrote a beautiful reply to my RFE, as if it is a new case (23 pages) in total and got my I-140 approved in two weeks. I would highly recommend anyone to go with this guy. I have never seen some one who can write so fluent and cryptic.
If you need more info, on him, I can forward that to you.

No offense to samUsam intended, but be careful following newsgroup advises. That\'s exactly how I hired my "wonderful" attorney...

So be careful. Use a lawyer recommended by a TRUSTED FRIEND with a SIMILAR case to your own. All three capitalized words are important. there are many bad lawyers out there, who either not knowledgeble, or crooks, or both.

As for the famous ones, they at least cannot be very bad. But they are expensive, unfortunately. It\'s not a personal recommendation, these guys are well-known in the country and are not crooks:

www.imminfo.com (with some reservations)

etc.

Please make sure what service you get from an attorney!
I once hired a laywer and found out that I myself had to write most of the supporting documents. Sigh... I paid her but decided not to work with her. This time I got a bit smarter (after spending so much money) and made sure what service I should get and let the lawyer put it in the retainer agreement.
You really need to hire a lawyer "recommended by a TRUSTED FRIEND with a SIMILAR case to your own! (like "ooa" said)"
