Stolen wallet- GC gone, need replacement

Hi all,

I received my GC in dec 2002. Last week I was travelling in China,
and someone stole my wallet (which had my GC in it). Luckily, I did not have any problems reentering the US at JFK since I had my passport with the I551 stamp on it (valid until nov 2003).

Now i need to file for a replacement GC. Can anyone tell me about the process, forms & fees required, time for processing etc? Also, my approval came from the texas service center, but now I am living in NJ, so am assuming that I will have to file for a replacement in the VT service center...

Also, need to confirm that if the replacement takes a long time to arrive, can I still travel on the basis of the stamp on my passport?

Thanks, and please CC the responce to my yahoo email (hardeepthind@yahoo.com)

Re stolen wallet

S/he must have lost her/his mind -- thought it's 2003 now :)

Shouldn't be any problem -- fill the form and visit local INS office...

Whoops-

The dates are indeed incorrect... Got GC in dec 2001, and I think the passport stamp says that it is valid until dec 2002...
