Sticky OCI renewal situation

I recently renewed my son's passport and the OCI sticker is on the old passport. When I first applied for the OCI card, the rules stated that there was no need for renewal as it was lifelong. We are looking to travel in the next couple weeks and one of my friend's recently mentioned about the change in rules. I have run out of time to apply for an OCI sticker transfer. Has anyone recently traveled to Bangalore with the old and new passports and the OCI card and faced any challenges? I wrote to the consulate office in NY and awaiting response. Is there anything I could do in order to avoid confusions with immigration?

I've seen posts on this forum (can't remember the thread(s)) where people were able to go to India with their kids not having had their U stickers transferred.

You should be ok to travel to India with your son's new passport and his old passport with OCI sticker and his old OCI booklet. Someone had posted something about getting a response from one consulate office or something saying to travel with all three documents and then after the trip, apply for OCI renewal to the new passport and new booklet. I would easily make the argument that since the OCI status is lifelong for a person, just because you haven't been able to get the renewal into the new passport, does not invalidate the status for your son. The OCI status is tied to a person and not to a passport.

Thank you very much for the feedback guys. I must have tried a dozen times to get someone at the Consulate respond to my query but with no luck. The ones who responded to the call redirected me to other people suggesting they were not the people who were responsible for responding to OCI related Qs. The people I was directed to were neither available to respond nor equipped to receive voicemails. I finally gave up in vain after trying the entire day to get a hold of someone from the consulate. At this point my only choice is to carry all my son's documents (old passport, new passport, OCI card). I will post if I hear anything new.
