congratulations dr_lha! i'm glad you received your green fairly quickly. i'm sure you celebrated and is still celebrating. again, all the best! quick question, how long have you been married? has it been more than 3 years that's why the 10-year green card as opposed to the 2-year conditional green card? just wondering. thanks and congratulations again!
Actually the cut off for getting a 10 year green card is being married for more than 2 years. My wife and I have been married for about 2 1/2 years as of now, and were over 2 years at the interview. I wasn't in a big hurry to get my Green Card because I had a valid H-1B, plus in the back of my mind I knew if I waited I could avoid the whole 2 year conditional GC/I-751 process.

Congrats...that is great.
10 years, that is super. that will be a while before you need to worry about it again.
Do they start to give people 10 years conditional card now?
No, as I said above, Conditional Green Cards are 2 years, a 10 year Green Card has no conditions.
I thought before they give out 2 years card and renew for the normal GC.
Only if you've been married for less than 2 years, if you've been married for over 2 years, you get the 10 year card.
So, after 3 years holding GC, that person will be able to apply for citizenship right?
Correct! In fact, I can apply for citizenship 90 days before the 3 year mark, which is in 949 days. ;)

Since when are you a permanent resident as per your card?
I'm just curious and trying to figure out whether they actually took their time to make a decision or your file just sat somewhere for a couple of months...

The card says the date I started being a permanent resident was my interview date, despite the fact that the card turned up almost 2 months after that. The card however is valid until 10 years after it was produced, Nov 29th, 2016.

So I guess my file just sat around for a few months.

another quick question dr_lha: did you receive a separate letter with the approval of your I-485? or receiving the green card is your approval notice? the reason i'm asking is that my husband received his green card already. and then we received an email the same day we received his green card stating that his I-485 application has been approved and a notice has been sent to him. however, we haven't received the approval letter for the I-485 and i was thinking maybe the green card says it all. i know the letter doesn't mean anything anymore because he has his green card and that's what's important. but i just want to know if there is a letter floating around that has not been delivered to us or there's no such thing. please advise. thanks!
