Steps to manage Address Change

I moved couple of months ago. And my 140/485/AP/EAD are all pending. Like to ask if there are additional steps I could to other thanthe following to ensure no documents get lost. THANKS for your help!

1. I called the 800 number at the back of 140/485 reciepts to inform address change. And they said BCIS will update address associated with my A number, not each of my open cases (is this your understanding as well?).

2. My lawyer also contacted BCIS via email to inform address change. Lawyer claims email (or emails) was sent to cover both me and my wife's cases.

3. I asked post office to forward mails. Post office can only do this for one year though, right? (will end by June 2005).

Also, are there ways I can verify BCIS has got my new address?

THANKS!

My impression is that national 800 is not is not very effective - their database is not in sync service centers. Some people updated their address calling 800 number, but still they got their FP notice/approval notice to their old address. It's better to call service center directly and change the address for each case in separate sheets. If your applications are in CSC, there is a fax sheet for change of address (check CSC Guideline). One good way to deal with this situation is to fax change of address first and then after one week call service center and confirm the address (to make sure they updated your address for each case).

Email and USCIS - it's like mixing water with oil. Probably I am too skeptic. But I would not count on email.

Post office does not forward USCIS letters because USCIS puts "Return Service Requested" on envelopes. Sometimes some post offices forward by mistake, but don't count on it.

"pralay" has replied you and he is correct. How the lawyer can send email to USCIS??? and I-800 is BS
you need to do the below:
1 file form AR11 for address change
2 update NCSC on 18003755283, your new address, provide them your ,WAC,EAC or LIN # of I-485 and reciept # of any pending petitions with service center, provide the receipt#, your name, DOB, A#( A# is on I-485 filing reciept)
3 write letter to service center for address change on your I-485( if you have spouse I-485 pending He/she also need to change address on her/his I-485) or any pending petitions with them provide your past and NEW address, attach I-485 receipt copy, and copies of reciept of pending applications write your name, DOB, A# on cover letter so that you get Fingerprinting notice at your new address. Send the letter to your service center with certified return receipt and out side the envelope write in big bold letters ATTENTION: ADDRESS CHANGE for Pending Form I-485 ( or any other application)

*** do the all 1,2,3
** remember if any RFE for I-485 or I-140 it will go to lawyer who filed I-140 or I-485, if you have changed employer better hire your lawyer and fill up G-28 with him and he will represent you for your I-485 and request him to send letter to USCIS
