Hi Guys,

an update. USCIS sent me a letter saying I am in name check, exactly after 45 days from the date Ombudsman opened an inquiry to them.

Anyone got the same letter?

How many days after this letter (if at all) did your IL come?

any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

the letter format - is this something else?

The letter contains the following:
--------------------------------------------------------
We have researched your case to determine the status of your form N-400. Our records reflect that the processing of this case has been delayed because the required investigation into your background is still in process. Until the background investigation is completed, we cannot move forward on this case.

While an exact date for completion of your background check cannot be given at this time once it is completed next step will be interview ...etc etc
----------------------------------------------------------

Does this mean I am not in name check? is it something else? Anyone in name check got a letter like above?

well in any case there is nothing I can do but wait..

any thoughts welcome.

Regards

Even though it says background, it may be the name check - not sure.

Others here, who have got similar letters, can you post your experience please.

the term "background check" refers to all 3 checks that the USCIS performs (FP, name check, IBIS check). FPs and IBIS are completed within 24-48 hours, as both are done digitally. It's safe to assume that the background investigation referenced in the letter is the name check.

Does this letter go out to everybody even if you don't go to Ombudsman?

I got the same letter...

I called INS directly as my case has gone over the processing time. They gave me a case # and then about 2 weeks after that I got this same letter from the Newark field office (my case was filed in Vermont and I reside in NJ).

Whilst this could be true (that it's somewhere in the name check), I would more likely take this as a general answer for any god given problem they have, not withstanding that they need to move a few cabinets to get your file from behind it, when it fell form the dust pile 6 month ago.

I would have laughed with a ROFL! if not for the fact that this can be a sad truth :-(

Seriously - that would be the most convinient excuse for not advancing an application.
I would imagine that anything else could expose them to some kind of lawsuit.

Just imagine this:

"Sorry, IO Mr. John Doe and his colleague where telling jokes - against our rules - and spilled the Starbucks all over your file. In order to hide the incident, they placed your file in the janitors office for cleaning. The janitor hasn't had any success during the laundry which subsequently distroyed the file completely. We apologize for any inconvinience this incident may have caused you and kindly request that you refile the application, which unfortunately requires you to get back in line. Starbucks is commited to help us to prevent future accidents and is now starting an extensive study with the EPA on how to remove stains more easily, though we don't expect any results prior to fiscal year 2035. Your continous support and appreciation for our service is valuable to us and we strive to provide the best customer experience and service.

Yours faithfully"

Thanks guys

Thanks for sharing your thoughts guys.

FYI, my name check was cleared since Feb 2007 but USCIS was not ready to interview me because they were doing additional background check. God knows what that was, but tell you what....I was called for interview not once but twice and both times they didn't interview me claiming that the file has not made it to the DO. Additional security check was just an excuse since my file was not transferred, don't know...really. But after filing WOM my case was closed in 55 days and was finally called for the interview. Same day interview at 8am and same day oath at 2pm.

Hi Guys ... Sorry if this question has been asked before, but can you tell me who is Ombudsman and how I can ask about my case to find out if I cleared name check? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I heard somewhere that nowadays, the FP letter is sent out only after name check is cleared. Is this true, or is it just wishful thinking?
