Staying outside US for over 3 months between FP and Interview

If I stay outside US for over 3 months between the FP and Interview dates, will that create a problem with the condition of having lived in the local office jurisdiction for 3 months? Or is this 3 month rule applicable only before one applies for N400 and not afterwards?

I am also planning to return to US for a month or so and then to back to home country for another 2-3 months. Assuming Interview dates are not scheduled during this time frame, is this risky to stay outside that long?

Any insight is appreciated.

The three month district residency rule applies before you apply. However, you must still keep continuous residency up until oath date. A three month trip between interview and oath is not something that would be considered an intent to break continuous residency, unless you have a history of very long trips or back and forth travel pattern of long trips.

Thanks Bobsmith.

After I read the USCIS notification of completing all more-than-6-months-pending name checks, I called USCIS and the officer tells me that I have been placed in the queue for the interview in early February. But he can't tell if the name check has been completed or not. Obviously, the interview is not scheduled yet.

Has anyone else waiting for more than a year heard the same from USCIS? Did you get the interview letter soon after that? Please share your experience.

Thanks.
