Status in Immigration Database

I have been a Green Card holder since mid 2000. I needed to apply for a new social security card, but the SSA officer told me that my status in the immigration db has not been changed from H1-B. (he did say that the card looks legit.) Called the immigration 800 number and they too say that my status has not been updated.
I have travelled in and out of the US several times in the last five years with no problems at the immigration counter.

Anyone with similar situation/experience? What action was taken?

Thanks for all your help.

It is quite common particularly in Consular processing cases. The thing to do is that SS office raises a query to INS and then that sets in motion the data base update. Nothing to worry about. Earlier SSA could give a new SS card based on paper documents but now they are required to check "the database" and only then approve a new card. Meet a supervisor or someone responsible at the SS office.

------ it happens with many, SSA office will take the copy of your passport first page and the page that has stamp and A# on it SSA office will verify with USCIS and SSA office will inform you to wait for the card 2-4 weeks time ( i have seen many getting the new SSN card in 2 weeks once you visit the SSA office and they take your form for new card in your situations)
Thanks for all your help.
