Starting a business on H1

Hello,

I have read all the previous messages on starting a new business on h1 but not got a specific answer on the following -

I am currently employed full time with a computer software company on a h1 visa and I intend to keep working full time in addition to venturing into a small business.

Is it possible for me to start a small business (sole proprietorship) where I am not drawing a 'salary' but making profits? I intend to have no employees. The business will be extremely simple - trading goods (from simple items like handicrafts to complex like engineering equipment). The whole effort of procuring goods to marketing and selling would be done by me.

Is this legal by INS rules? Can I have a private business while being employed full time on a h1 with an employer?

Off course I would need to pay taxes on the profit made at the end of the year. That goes without saying.

Thanks!
