Start new job remotely (outside the US) with old unexpired TN visa

Tricky situation i'm in - i searched the forums and couldn't find any answers.

Here's the situation:
I have an old TN visa from an old employer. I left the US to work remotely and then left that job. Old TN is void now.

Got a new job offer from a new employer in the US. They need to put me on W-2 payroll.

I'm still remote and out of the US and plan on working from outside of the US. Do i need a new TN Visa?

Follow up question: How would the company complete the I-9 on the first day of work if i do not need a new TN visa? Can i just submit my i-94 form and passport to them?

Neither you nor your employer need any US work authorization for you to work in Canada.

However, if your US employer' HR is requiring "internally" to have some form of authorization you will need to go to the border and get a new TN.

FYI, if you live and work in Canada, they cannot put you as W-2 employeee. They must either make you a contractor or pay you through a CDn agent/payrioll.
