stamping question?

I just found out online about the approval. I have not yet received the mailed letter.

Does the letter specify where you need to go for stamping? Or can you go to any location. The reason I ask is that my application was filed in New York. However, I recently moved to California. Do I need to go back to Newyork to get the stamp or could I just take the letter to a California location. The letter will be mailed to the New York location.

Also, since I did obtain asylum as a derivative asylee (from a parent), do I take the countrys passport or should I get the white card instead?

Thanks.

You were supposed to update the INS about your new address and fill up a form for that. The form is on the INS web site. So, I hope you did that and if you did, they will send you the letter. They will specify which place you will go to. Also, do nto bring your home passport to avoid raising eye brows. They will give you a white card and they will stamp your picture on it. This form is called I-550 i think. Good luck and congrats

Congratulations..... !!! Will you please share your timeline with us for those of us who are stil waiting....

I will personally recommend the White card with picture.... Take an extra picture with you at the time of stamping and no passports and they make you this card....

Regards,

Just wanted to be a little clear.. would they still raise eyebrows (for national passport) since its a derivative case? As far as i understood, derivative cases did not have any restrictions?

Also, what sort of questions and stuff do they ask you at the stamping site?
If anyone has been stamped at New york, NY that wouldbe very helful to know. I heard that you can only get stamped on Fridays (for NY location only). Is that correct?

Timeline..

Asylum approved - 06/97
I 485 Applied - 09/99
Rfe - 06/04 ( Just asked for medical and vaccinations)
Rfe received - 08/04
Approved - 08/04 (10 days after rfe return)

I doubt that they will ask you any substantive questions. The person who stamps approved adjustment applicants probably does not know too much about immigration law. If he did, he would be processing cases deep inside the building. Just think the the telephone operators who answer your calls.

Stamping is a very routine process after I-485 has been approved. Following activities are performed during this appointment:

Surrender your old I-94
Submit the pictures
FP of index finger is taken
A very simple form is filled out and signed
Person processing validates your ID

All these activities are performed to grant you a physical PR card. Person performing these activities with you does not have any bearing on your case as the case has already been approved.

Many USCIS offices are rolling out the INFOPASS program. You will need to go to the USCIS website and schedule an appointment online. Without an online appointment, you may not be able to see an CIS officer for stamping.

you can walk in anytime you want , but for several filing applications , * you must make the appointment* so if u wanna walk in and talk to an IO you can do so

I wanted to know if you can walk-in to get your stamping done at the New York City location? I don't need general information as that might not apply to the NYC location.

I have already made all the travel arrangements for this Friday and Infopass will not give me an appt for another 2 weeks. I need to cancel everything if I cannot walk-in to get teh stamp done.

Please let me know if you have any info on this.

Thanks

I do not know anything specific about NYC. But on its website the NYC office does say that "To speak with an Immigration Officer, you must have an INFOPASS appointment. If you do not have internet access there shall be INFOPASS kiosks available for you to make an appointment between the hours of 7:00AM to 3:30PM Monday through Friday."

In my city the USCIS stopped seeing anyone without an INFOPASS as of this week. So I would encourage you to inquire about this current policy in NYC (eventually all offices will require an appointment).

Sessanga,

If you don't mind my asking.. how recently did you get your stamping in NYC done?

Also, the approval notice mentions to go on a Friday.. do you have to go only on Fridays or can you go any day of the week?

Thanks.

I went for stamping on 08/16/04 the day after i got the letter of approval in Dallas,Texas. My approval notice did not specify the day to go for stamping.I was at the bcis local center by 5:00 a.m.They sent away all those who did not have info pass appointments except for those like me who had official notices instructing them to go the local center to process their I-155`.I was given two choices by an IO either to make an info pass appointment or wait until i see the IO but will be after all those with info pass appointments have been cleared.I decided to stay, was issued a ticket number, went back home and came back at 3:00 p.m didn`t see the IO until 4:00 p.m and i got stamping.
