Stamping experience on Oct at Atlanta INS
My I-485 was approved at Oct 1, 2001. I went to Atlanta INS at Oct 2001 to get stamp on my passport. I arrived at 7:30 am in front of Atlanta INS and parked my car on private parking lot. ($7) It took about an hour to get in the INS office because of the tightened security check up. They scanned and checked everything.
8:30 Entered INS office and go to the Infomation desk to get the waiting number. You need to have this number to get stamping from officer.
9:00 Entered Room 1?? (I forgot the room number) to get stamp. There were about 40-50 people waiting their turn. There were about 10 desks to process stamping and application but opened only 1 or 2 at a time. Processing was very slow and slow. My waiting number was 37X and they were processing 31x when we get there.
2:00 Finally, they called my number. Wow. The real stamping process was just easy and fast. I provide my passport, I485 approval form, and I-94. The officer just looked at the documents briefly and took my finger print. And finished. It took about 10 mins. But the officer was spending about 30-40 min to process each case because he seemed to fill out something else for each individual case to the computer. I am not sure exactly what they were doing.
If I arrived about 30 min earlier, I should finish more than 2 hours earlier. So, prepare to be arrived as early as possible. That will save your time.
One more thing, They are not processing many cases per day. All is First in and First Out. If you arrive late like after 10 or 11 am, you may not get the waiting number for that date and you need to come back again the other day to get it.
Anyway, no matter how long it took, it was finished and it was much much shorter than the time we had waited to get approval.
