take photocopy of ID as well as passport

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I went for passport stamping (SFO) on Dec. 2nd, they asked me for a photocopy of my ID (or driver's license) as well as a photocopy of my passport. Both of these they retained. Since I hadn't carried these with me, I had to use the rather lousy copier available in a store on the premises. This caused me to miss my appointment, but when I explained this to the lady, she was very understanding and even told me not to worry so much about the poor quality of the photocopies.

This appears to be a new procedure since all that was initially needed were

Approval Notice (hand over)
I-94 (original to hand over),
AP (hand over)
EAD (hand over)
2 passport size photographs with Name and Alien Number written at the back. (hand over)
Now in Addition: Photocopy of passport (hand over)
Now in Addition: Photocopy of ID or Driver's license (hand over)
They will also fingerprint you.

This might also be some kind of a fraud prevention measure. Or perhaps they only applied it to me. Who knows!

Hope this helps
