Stamping experience @ Charlotte 04/01/2004

I took my wife and child for stamping at Charlotte NC office. (April 1, 2004)

1. Reached there at 7:30AM and stood in line in cold for around 20 min.

2. Reched inside at around 7:45AM.

3. 8 counters - but did not see more than 2 persons working at a time. Most of the time it was 1 person on counter.

3. For around 15 min, no one was on counters.

4. There were 2 persons working inside - when took the paper work inside.

5. Finally our turn came around 10AM.

6. Gave the approval letters and passports.

7. Got back passports at 10:20AM.

The immigration officer was very very nice - in particular with my daughter.

The officers were NOT wasting ANY TIME on talking or gossiping. They were working like busy bees.

Overall - good experience.

Does not make much diffrence it you reach there at 7 or 8AM or 9AM - expect to be there for around 3 hours.

Some people came at around 8:30 - and there completion time was only 20 min later than us.

There was one person in the line. He did not have enough documents - the person who gives token asked him to go other office and get that paper and give him the token saying that it would save time for him. The person came back early enough for his number. I thought that was nice of officer to retain his number in the line.

here is my passort stamp experience in charlotte:

3:50 am: got up

4:00 am: drove

5:55 am: charlotte ins, there were 12 persons ahead

7:05 am: call for appointments in only (very few came in)

7:35 am: got in with tag "B201", i believe "B" number is for stamp use only, only only infront of me B200

8:05 am: called me, she took:
(1) all my EADs, APs
(2)485 Approal Notice (ins sent original one to my attorney, sent copy to my home)
(3)two photos
(4)passport
then left both index fingerprint and signature twice, ONLY 2 minates !! then told that they would run security check on me

8:46 am: call my name with very strange pronunciation (i noticed that i am still foreigner ;)), gave me stamp in front of me

8:48 am: out



couple inputs:
1). i agree with Toolongawait buddy, you may not go there too ealier like me and original_007 family, only if you want to get out around 9:00 am (i just take half day off)
2). they do not take care of EADs and APs, just collected them, no checking, even no counting
3). all very nice officers, even the security guy said "Thank You Very Much" to me when i helped him to check my bag.

cplusplus, toolongawait, congratulations!

I used to hear all kinds of horror stories about the Charlotte center. We all seemed to have a pretty decent experience, though. I mean, it could have been faster, but it could have been a lot slower too. I guess, they have improved the things there. A friend of mine who went there for stamping in May 2002, got there at 7AM, and had to wait until afternoon, I think he was done by 2PM.

Glad to see all the RDU people getting approved and getting their stamps.
