Experts,
Please advice me. I thought time to ask this question will never come.
Now I don’t know what to do. My I-94 was received at the time of my initial interview for asylum in 1992, it says pending. After BIA approved my case in 1997, they never sent me a new I-94. My national passport has expired in 1992 and it was from former USSR (there is no such a country). I never applied for RTD. Do I need to get new I-94 or should I just wait for the GC.
Thank you , Irina

it all depends on what district service your going to , if its a big one like new york , u need to make an appointment using infopass or wait for approval letter and follow the instructions , but if its a smaller one just take the approval latter with u and they will take care of you .... ( just in case have 3 passport pictures with you )
they will give u like an I-94 with your picture on it and its good for a year ... sometimes might take even longer for the actual green card to arrive ..
from now on ur a PR ( legal in this country ) so no need to stress yourself up no more :D

congrats btw

you need it

When you go for a stamping, you are actually going to fill out a form that will be requesting issuance of your plastic card. So, if you want to get your card, I belive you must go and do the stamping.

Since your passport is expired and you don't have a RTD, I suggest you make an InfoPASS apptmt, take your expired passport with you and go see what they say. I have heard that sometimes they add an additional page to your passport and put the stamp on it.

one more thing

yes, you are a PR already, but the question is that you need to have a temporary proof of that status until you have a plastic card in your hands.
The stamp is a temporary evidence of LPR for one year.

Approval letter says that GC has been ordered , I should receive it in a few month (yah, yah… :) ) and I am not going to renew my passport ever. So why do I need this stamp? I am just trying to avoid going to INS . Thank you all for the replay

I forgot to add, during the interview I submitted 2 pic and they took FP , as officer said for GC.

You forgot to mention an important part :-)

Well, in that case you don't need to do stamping, you can just wait for your plastic card to arrive.

But, in any event, don't you think you should have a valid document for travel needs? GC by itself is not sufficient to leave a country and come back, they will always ask you for a "passport", isn't it so? You should apply for RTD in my opinion.

You are right. I should think different now. I so use to think that I can’t go anywhere . Plus, I live in Silicon Valley and work for high tech and we don’t take vacation here often especially now, recession was very bad .
May be it is time for me to take vacation…l :)

Irina,

Because they already had your pictures and index fingerprint for your plastic card, showing up for stamping is optional. If you decide to show up, bring one picture, your state ID and your approval notice. And they will issue you a new I-94 card saying that this is a temporary green card.

If you are really sick of the INS and do not want go inside its offices, do not go. It is no big deal.
