Stamped as B1 on I-94 at port of entry

Hi All,
I am representing my friend here. He came to US recently on H1 visa. He had all the valid H1 papers. But, at the port of entry (airport), he was given the I-94 with a stamp of B1 and an expiry date of within around 3 months. What are his options?

He needs to contact local CIS office and get a new I-94.
