I know a someone who came to this country on H1 visa, His employer renewed his visa now.
Does he has to go back to his country to stamp the passport?
Or
is it o.k for him to stay over here without a passport stamp?

I would be grateful, if someone can help me on this.

You can get the visa revalidated in the US. Send your passport along with all the necessary documents to Washington D.C. They take about 5-6 weeks to revalidate the visa.
