Not a problem. Either the officer will put stamp on your current passport or he/she will issue an I-94 like card. It depends on the officer, but both ways are fine. That I-94 like card is equivalent to passport stamping, and you should carry with your passport (old or new) while traveling. If officer puts stamp on current passport, you need to carry both old (current one) and new passport while traveling until your receive your plastic green card (assuming you are traveling after your received new passport, but haven't received plastic card). On renewal, old passport get cancelled, but temporary GC stamp will be still valid.

pralay is correct but I would like to add that officer may stamp the passport till the Validity of passport, in your case stamp valid for 6 months and after that if you dont get your green Card you may again need to go for new stamp. if you have time get your passport renewd and then go for stamping and you will get stamp valid for 1 year
