Me and my wife had an interview with st.louis local office today. Didn't approve/stamp. The officer said will mail the decision later and it could take upto an year.

Who told you that it would take upto one year. Did the person who interviewed you tell you that? I had my interview a few months back. They did not tell a time period?
 
No, I have not got my approval...but some of my friends have...I don't believe it is going to be a year considering that interviews are scheduled pretty fast only in st. louis.
 
Ok. let me rephrase it. What she told is "A decision will be mailed to you before the year end". User, did the officer cancel your H1B in the passport?
 
No, they did not cancel the h1 but they did take the i-94, original advance parole documents etc...to ensure that you don't leave the country. They told that I had to come in to collect the advance parole if there was a need to leave the country.
