SSN reqd. for spouse entering on H4 Visa

Hi all,

My spouse would be entering US on H4 Visa shortly and I would be applying for her I-485 processing shortly. Please let me know if I require to apply for her SSN once she arrives here. Also, does it make any difference if it is applied while on H4 or once the I485 application is filed? Any previous experiences on this would really help.

she can only apply for SSN after she gets her AOS EAD. She is not eligible to get SSN while she is on H4, since she can't work.
 
Thanks Lucy_Mo for the reply. I was planning to post it in the Student session as my spouse would be enrolling into the school. I was wondering if that would have any impacts on the SSN application or the AOS application.
