SSN Question

Hi,

I had my SSN during my OPT 3 years back and now i am on H1. Does anyone know if i should continue to use my same SSN or i have to apply for a new one?
I wasn't in the country past 3 years after OPT expired and i dont know if the SSN remains active throughout that time or not.

Since the SSCard is expired, i guess i have to go to local SSN Office with H1 approval to get it renewed, right?
Perhaps i am expecting too much here but would the renewed SSN card come by mail?
