SSN on OPT EAD?

Can somebody apply for his/her SSN# based on approved OPT EAD + I-120 + I-797?

I am F1 now since one year(moved from H4) and never worked in-campus or etc while doing my M.S.

I applied my SSN# but have not yet received the card. This is my third week.

I am planning to go to SSN# office tomorrow to check the status but i wanted to know is it ***MANDATORY*** to have a job offer letter in order to apply SSN# or OPT EAD is enough proof ?

Please advise.

Did u get the SSN ? Is ur OPT valid now or it duration begins sometime later than when u applied for SSN ?
