SSN for TN

Hi folks,

I know this question might be asked for many times in the forum, but just want to confirm that if it's still the case that I need to wait 2 weeks before applying SSN after entering US as TN status? It could be an issue for opening a bank account for paying bills, is there anyway to expedite this process?

Thank you,

Sorry, I'd have to disagree. Waiting appears to still be the case. No way to expedite. To try to go faster will stall your process.

So would the SSA disagree:

We recommend you wait 10 days after arriving in the United States to apply for a Social Security number to make it easier for us to verify your DHS documents online, which will speed processing of your Social Security number application.

Nelsona...it's only a recommendation....I myself know two ppl in my company who got their TN and drove straight to the social security office to apply for ssn. There were no issues whatsoever...

took him 3 weeks to get it. My intent is not to argue :). The poster's query was whether he/she has to wait for 2 weeks before applying. Based on first hand knowledge of two of my colleague's experience, I can tell they literally got the TN and drove directly to the concerned office to apply for one. Why not get it out of the way early if possible :)

I applied SSN yesterday after waiting for 10 days. In the receipt, it said the card will be mailed to me in 2 weeks. Does this mean the verification process passed? I heard that I can get the number by coming back to SS office next day, is that true?

Thanks in advance guys!

Next day, next week.... do you really think the US bureaucracy is better in US than Canada? If you have time to waste (which apparently you do since they screwed you out of working for 2 weeks) then I guess you can go back every day.
