There was a message afloat that dependents can also get a SSN. Is that true and can my wife apply for a SSN. If not, does my SSN apply to her as well in opening of bank accounts etc.

I & my wife applied together for H1B & H4 respectively at Delhi on 2nd Jan. Got approved and had the passports with visas deilvered back to us in 2 days (recd courier on 4th Jan). The visa intv was very simple. Looked at marriage photographs, saw my US degree and saw the I-129 copy.
