I have question how long does i take to get a SSN for a person on H4 Visa after EAD approval?

And where do we apply for an SSN?

My mom received her SSN/card in less than a week (applied last friday -received today Wednesday 8/31/05) after apply for one with her EAD card even though the SS office said it would take 2-3 weeks.
