SSN after change of status to F1

My wife got her status change from H4 to F1 in the first week of August. We went to the local SSN office with all the documents (assistantship letter etc) on Aug 20. We were told that her status still shows as H4. We have got a letter from them that they will be sending the papers to USCIS for verification.
As of last week, it is apparently still H4. Is there any way this can be expedited or we just have to wait ?

We filed for AOS by the Aug 17 deadline and I am hoping AOS status change does not have a clash with F1 status impacting SSN issue

You just need to wait it out. SSA is only waiting to ensure that they issue a SSN to someone who is indeed eligible for one. The pending AOS should have no impact on this.

Would it help if we go for a Infopass appointment to have USCIS to have them update the status in SAVE ? Would the fact that she has an AOS pending be an issue at the Infopass appointment?
There is still no SSN, though when we checked with SSN office today, they told us they have got a message from USCIS asking to send them copy of documents showing the immigration status (I really do not know why they would ask these, how does it work anyway)

SSN for F-1 visa holders

Does SSA issue SSN for F-1 visa holders. I though they were not issuing any more unless F-1 visa holder shows a job offer, on or off campus and needs SSN to report earnings. I am PR but my wife is F-1. I did not go to SSA to appy for her SSN. What documents to bring there?

Which DO are you in?

F-1 Pending Aos

If You Guys Have Filed I-485, She Can Not Travel On F-1, Without Obtaining Ap. Does Not F-1 Status Is Revoked Once Ead Is Issued Or Before Ead. Could Some Guru Clarify This. F-1 Is Non Immigrant And Aos Is Immigrant Visa. I Think F-1 Is Revokeable Once I-485 Filed. It Does Not Effect F-1 Status If I-130 Or 1-40 Is Filed..right

F-1 status is invalidated immediately upon filing I-485, whether EAD application is filed or not. Filing the I-485 keeps you from being out of status and allows continuing the course of study, but the F-1 is considered gone.

I think her F-1 status is terminated, once AOS filed

F-1 is not dual intent as H-1B or H4. In the later status, you can have dual NI and Immigrant intent. Once you file I-485, you become eligible for EAD and not F-1 any more. You must have filed her I-485 stating that she has H4 currently or may be F-1. It does not matter. Her F-1 is abandoned. USCIS will not verify her F-1 status as she does not have that any more, unless they bungle up, as they do in at least 70% of the time(my opinion and experinece).

So once an I-485 has been filed, the F-1 is no longer valid?

Does this mean the student (my husband) no longer has to pay the outrageous tuition charges for international students?

Infopass Update

- We were told that this is not something they can help with unless there is a A-number

- If she had entered the country on the F1 visa, Customs and Borders Protection (CBP) could have been approached, but that's not our case.

- They suggested to call again the 800- number on the website and ask them to have the Laguna, CA office update the status.

- They said that the SSA is a big mess, and its possible that they are giving her a run around

Visit did not really yield results, but it was worth exploring.
