Ssc&cc...?

Hii all,
i need to know ,
What is SSC & CC ?
How much time it will take to get SSC and CC after activation of JFC?
Are they important as same as GC?
Thanks in advance..

SSC is social security number and CC is a credit card.

It is hard to obtain a CC right now or you have to get a secured one which means that you have to post like $ 1,000.- and can't spend more than $ 1,000.- before you pay it off. Without a financial record over here the banks aren't willing to give you a CC so easy. You have to show a lot of proof and a CC is over here very important since you build up a credit score and all loans go by that score. Even some places won't rent a place to people with no credit score or a low one.

A SSC will help a lot but still you need the credit score asap.

The SSC is easy to get after you are approved for the GC but the CC is up to the bank and your cash situation....specially with the banking crisis over here, many people got their limits sliced and other were told by their CC that they were no longer welcome...American Express even offered a bonus for getting rid of customers who didn't pay of the CC.
If you are a student it is even harder to get one, as a foreigner or you have to have a sponsor signing for you and being liable and still having a secured card. After 2 yrs of full payments you can get the card to be unsecured. I hope this answer helps otherwise ask me more questions...:)

Credit cards can be a problem at these days, depends on if you have a job. Getting a secured card should be no problem, and after 6 month it should be converted to a unsecured one.

We dont had this problem, as Amex can transfer cards to nearly any country. Later we applied for another Visa as backup card.

Bank of America has a 2 year rule for secured cards to get them unsecured...

Really? A friend got his unsecured after 6 month. But banking business is one of the strange things in the U.S. ;)

What does it mean converting from secured one to unsecured ?

I don't think a CC has much to do with the green card but I do remember reading that some people had to show they could obtain a CC.

Secured means that you won't be able to spend more than the money you deposit in the bank and it will be kept by the bank in a savings account which you won't have access to until the account will be unsecured. In our case it took over 2 years and $ 1000.- isn't much to have as a secured CC. If you want to build up a credit history and get a good credit score you need to pay many times with your card and pay your bills on time...One late payment can ruin it.

We started with a $1,000.- secured card but soon we added another $ 1,000.- since when you are buying flight tickets you won't even be able to buy for the whole family and pay other stuff....since many accounts will let you pay the card of immediately but still the $ 1,000.- could be seen by the bank as the limit per month as i find out and it was very annoying. It depends on the CC and the bank...The bad thing is that most likely you won't find out until you use the card and you can even get overdraft fees if you use your card for over $ 1,000.- in one month....which is absolutely ridiculous since the bank won't allow you to spend more than that...In europe you card will be denied when you try to go over that amount...Over here it is all banking fees and you will find out when you get your statement. Many times we have figured out that the bank employees don't even have a clue how it works...If you call the bank 3 times you can get 3 different answers...

I don't 't intend to use credit card as possible as i could to have some control over expenditures as being single. But it seems I'm going to change my mind
after i read what you wrote.
Don't you think limiting using Credit card will allow you to have some control of your money although you will not build up your score quickly

You can even use it at McDonalds for a $ 1.- hamburger and build up your credit score that way...you don't have to spend large amounts all the time...
The credit score system is weird and you have to be careful for ID theft since almost every where they will ask for your SSC...careful giving it...but in many cases you need to give it.
