Hi,

My wife won the DV 2014 lottery. And we are waiting for the interview. She has collece education but little( <2years of work expierience in a zone 3 job (doesn't qualify)). But I, on the other hand, have a High School diploma and almost 20 years of a Zone 4 ,SVP 7-8 job. (qualifying).

Do we have a chance at the interview? Does it matter who won the lottery?

Thanks,
Luciano.

Your education/experience is irrelevant. As the selectee it is ONLY your wife's situation that matters.

However, she doesn't need to show education AND work experience at a qualifying level - the requirement is education (equivalent to US High school diploma) OR work experience at the stated level.

So - the question is only is her college education equivalent to a US High School education? If you want to provide more detail about her education we could help assess that...

The guidelines state

"High School Education: A high school education means successful completion of a formal course of elementary and secondary education comparable to completion of a 12-year course in the U.S."

Yes she had 12 years of HS plus 4 yers of college.

But don't you think the interviewer will look for the background of us both.
If she and I both can add some value to the USA

The interviewer could very likely ask about your education and employment background - ours did. But, your wife is the selectee. She, first and foremost, needs to meet the criteria. You could be Einstein & Bill Gates rolled into one and times 10 but I doubt it would matter. I'm certain you would both be refused if she didn't have the 12 years of High School or employment qualifications.

Don't worry about it, looks like she's got the goods. All the best!

Ditto to what Vichel said. Your experience may help reassure the CO that you will be able to survive financially and that is important, but as Vichel said, if your wife didn't qualify then that would mean DQ for you both. She does qualify though so no worries...

Just to expand a bit: in our interview (I am principal applicant) they did ask my husband what he does and plans to do there, but regarding proof of education etc they were only interested in mine as that is the deciding factor.

In my country (in Europe) it is required to bring to the interview official translation of college diplomas/school certificates - I mean they want ONLY educational documentation translated + copies - all other documents can be submitted in original language without any translation.
Maybe you could call the embassy just to make sure there is no such requirement

Yes, same thing happened with us. I was the principal applicant so my paperwork was required but the CO also had a chat with my husband about his work experience, assets and investments, but no paperwork required.
