Sponsorship

Hi Gurus,

My 485 is in process and one of my relatives has asked me for a sponsorship letter. He wants to study at an university in Florida and a sponsorship letter would help him get his I-20 and then Student Visa.

Among other things, the sponsorship form from INS says that
"This affidavit is made by me for the purpose of assuring the Government that the person named in will not become a public charge in the US."

If I provide him with the letter and there is a noncompliance down the road for whatever reason, can it hurt my I-485 application.

If that sponsored person becomes a public charge, you can always denounce that person. This will not likely affect your 485 process. What if that person disappears and you cannot trace that person?? (of course you need to file a police complaint...)

I think you get the picture. You have to be proactive and make sure that this person does not become a public charge...
