I am a Canadian Citizen and I am getting married to my fiancee in december 2005. She is a Dutch passport holder. We are going to marry in my home country, which is Pakistan. After our marriage we will make a stop over in the Netherlands for a week or so and then fly to Canada. She will be entering Canada as a visitor and is allowed to stay for a maximum of 6 months.

Now my question to you is: Is it possible to apply for her PR while she is in Canada as a temporary resident (a visitor)? And how long will the procedure take? Is it possible to extend her stay?

On February 18, 2005, CIC announced a change that affects the sponsorship of spouses and common-law partners applying from within Canada. Does this apply to my situation as well?

Please advice me on the above.

1, Yes, start reading www.cic.gc.ca all the info is there and the application forms.
2. As long as you declare your intentions when you arrive in Canada you should have no problems, unless you have sponsored a spouse in the past 3 years or your wife has a criminal record and can pass background check.
3. The process will take about 8 months and she will have to apply for an extension. You should have her request a year when she enters as a visitor.

Allowed to enter Canada?

Is my wife allowed to enter Canada on a single ticket base? I want to sponsor her from within Canada, so she won't need to buy a return ticket.

Thank you.

Thank you.

As she is not an Immigrant, it is unlikely that the Airline will board her with a one-way ticket, buy a return.

health care

Dear PMM,

Could you tell me if it is possible to buy private health care for my wife (who is a visitor) while we are applying for a PRC?
I hope they won't refuse her entry if she has no health insurance.

Thank you.

Yes, there are a number of companies, Ingles, Blue Cross, but most insist that you buy either before entering Canada or within 5 days. They don't cover exsisting conditions. No they will not refuse her for not having medical insurance.
