Sponsoring visitor visa on AOS

My folks got Visitor visa from Mumbai consulate only for 6 months. Is that normal? Shudnt it be atleast a year?
 
My folks got it for an year from chennai. It all depends on the consular officer. Even if it is 1 year they have to leave in six months anyways, unless you are planning on extending their stay for few months.

I have also seen cases where they have issused 10 year muntiple entry visas.
 
The first time my folks came over, they got 6 month visas. Next time they went for visas they got 10 years...

Hi Guys,
Could you let me know what documentation is required to bring my parents, I am on H1B but applied for 140/485/EAD/AP, haven't used EAD yet. Thanks.
