I recently applied for a green card for my parents. With the application, I sent copies of affidavits given by my uncle and aunt stating that their marriage occurred at a certain place, time, etc. However, I received a notification from INS asking me to submit the marriage certificate for my mother issued by an "appropriate civil authority". Since this was 30+ years ago in India, the marriage was not registered.
What are general acceptable certificates for this purpose?
Should I just be mailing the original affidavits given by my aunt and uncle?
