Hi ,

I am planning to sponsor my Parents for a visit to USA.

I am currently working on EAD and have an unused AP.

My H1B has already expired.

To prove my legal status in the United States I am planning to send a copies of my I485 receipt, EAD and AP.

My company is not obliging my request for I485 receipt. They say it's not required.

Is EAD and AP sufficient ?

Do I need any other documents ? ofcourse I will be sending a copy of my passport also.

Also the website says that if the person is sixty years of age or older, they are eligible to apply using Drop Box Program

My father is over 60 but my mother is less than 60. can they apply using drop box ?

Answer to your drop box question, both the spouses must be over 60 to be eligiable for drop box facility, if one of them is not above 60 then both of them have to take an appointment and have to give the interview. This is what i heard from the TT service as well as TT services website for interview eligilibilty.

Both don't have to get an interview

My father is over 60 and my mother is not...My father used the drop box and my mother went for an interview (chennai). Both can go for an interview, if you prefer to do so. However both cannot use drop box.

My dad is over 60 and my mom less than 60, but they both used the drop-box facility. There is no harm in trying it first if you have sometime in your hands. Ask your company for a copy of your 485. You need to prove that you are in status to call your parents and 485 helps you in that.

485 is what you file ......

so you have a right to a copy. The lawyer should provide you one. Use FOIA, if necessary.

How will using FOIA get you I485 receipt notice?

pingpong02 -

You can send copies of EAD and AP. I did the same and got visas for my father (68) , FIL (62) and MIL (53) without any issues via dropbox.

Thanks!! all for your responses and suggestions.

We'll try the drop box first.

I am trying to convice my lawyer that I need I485 receipt.

Thanks again
