Sponsoring My Undocumented Parents Questions

Hi,

I became a naturalized citizen late last year(28 yrs old) and now am looking to get my parents a green card. My parents overstayed their visa back in 96 and have been here since as undocumented immigrants. Naturally, I will be getting a lawyer for all this, but before I do I figure I come here and post some questions that I have.

1. How long does the process usually take? And how long should it take a lawyer to get all the forms in?
2. What kind of forms will I/Lawyer be filling out for this process?
3. How much am I looking at as far application fees and lawyer fees for each person?

Thank you very much!

Normal process is around 5-7 months. Your parents case might take significantly longer because of the extended overstay.

Government fees are $1070 for form I-485, $1000 for I-485A, $420 for I-130, cost of medical exam (around $400), which adds up to around $2900 per applicant. Lawyer will charge several thousand more for a case involving overstay.

I don't see why.

$1000 for I-485A

Parents neither need nor are eligible for 245i relief, so no I-485A.

Agreed here, but I see no need for legal counsel, especially if they can prove legal entrance with a copy of the I-94.
