Sponsoring Canadian Citizen parents

Hi,

I'm a US citizen and would like to sponsor my parents. They are both Canadian citizens. Somebody told me that once I put in an application to sponsor them they won't be able to visit the US. Is that true?

Thanks.

By and large, a pending immigrant visa application precludes entering the US as a visitor, but they may be able to do so if they can prove to the POE officer that they have ties to Canada and this visit is only temporary.

Nope! My mother is going to visit my brother in two weeks and we helped him move. I should remind you that canucks don't have it as easy any more. The border folks have mucho discretion so if you run into a racist, like I did, you're screwed. But unless you get banned, which won't happen unless your parents do something really bad, they will be allowed to withdraw their application to enter the US. Many people have been refused at one port and then allowed in at another. The officer who fingerprinted me and my mother told me as much. Just don't lie to the border official! If you do, they will ban you! A refusal of entry will not have any effect on your parents' immigration. When filling out the DS-230, be honest when filling out the section about refusal for entry. Both my parents are Canadian citizens and are both waiting for the interview at Montreal. I filed for them some time ago (approx. 2.5 years ago) and my mother has visited my brother five times in the last two years. So the answer is NO.

Ugh, a racist? I see you have been well schooled in the Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton guide to blaming everything on racism.

Well done.

Thank You Great White Father!

Not all CBP personnel are racist, far from it, but those who are cast the whole organization in a bad light. How many times have you been hassled by the CBP? Have you ever been singled out for special treatment because of your race? Are you a person of color or is it that the only time you get color is when you burn crosses on lawns? You can stick you head in the sand and pretend it doesn't happen, just make sure that the sand is white.

I've been hassled by CBP. Maybe it's due to my race; I didn't ask. How could I tell?

That's completely uncalled for.

I don't see many people that have the same complexion as Mats Sundin getting hassled these days. Out of a bus of fifty people, five were refused entry, any idea what their skin tone might have been? Take a guess!

But probably true. Now if you'll excuse me I've got to get back to watching a NASCAR race, drinking Budweiser and firing my shotgun indiscriminately in the air.
