I posted this a few days ago but it got deleted. I appologize if it's still there as duplicate.
My company had agreed to sponsor my GC application back in sep 03. The guy in HR has been helping me under his supervisor - director of HR who authoraized this in the first place. Between lawyer, fees and ads, I spent over $4000 and finally got my LC certified 4 months ago. Since I don't have any more extra money to spend on the lawyer - and the lawyer wasn't that helpful - I decided to continue the process (I-140) without a lawer.
I contacted the same HR guy and asked for help. The thing is that his supervisor was replaced by this new lady a few months ago and he wanted to get her in the loop. The lady wrote me a single line letter saying that they would no longer help with this petition. No explanation or nothing.
You have no idea how hurt I was. I assumed that I had their support and approval in the first place and that was why I spent years and thousands of dollars. I had another company offered a better money with GC sponsorship but I chose this company because they were more stable.
So I requested a meeting with this lady a few days ago. I wanted to have a chance to meet with her in person and show her that I am not just an alien worker but a good person with feelings and goals. She was very cold and mean in the letters but she looked surprised when she saw me. She welcomed me and gave me some respect in person. She told me that she'd continue with this process only if I re-hired my lawyer. She said that she didn't want the company to be liable if things went wrong. I don't know how they could be liable but I just went with it. I told her that when I am financially ready, I would hire a lawyer.
The truth is that my husband is becoming USC and will be sponsoring for my GC after that. I am keeping my LC as a back-up plan in case anything goes wrong. I still wanted to have a chance to tell her the history and the kind of situation I was in face to face...
My friend worked for a company for over 8 years. The company kept promising to sponsor her GC. Last year they decided to take that back and withdraw. Her laywer said there was nothing she could do since the company can withdraw anytime without a reason??
