sponsor parents and siblings

I have done some reading on the procedure involved in sponsoring Parents and Siblings. Following is my understanding.

1. You can sponsor Parent or Sibling after becoming USC
2. Form I-130 needs to be filed for Parents and each sibling

My questions are -

do I need to hire an attoney or is it simple that I can manage it myself, similar to N-400 process?
where is the actual processing times data available for Parents and Siblings categories
Any other forms need to be submitted, in addition to I-130

Their is a separate dedicated forum for family based immigration and you are likely to get much more information there. I had a friend who recently applied for his parents and I helped them with some of their paperwork. Its not as easy as the N-400 although you should be able to do it on your own. The biggest challenge they faced was to get the birth certificates or 2 birth affidavits along with non-availability certificate from the town of birth. Besides this the marriage certificate can be an issue if your parents do not already have one. In any case a lawyer cannot help much with either of the above. Other than that its just a matter of collecting paperwork, filling and sending it.

Parents cases are usually very quick (around 6 months) as there is no requirement to wait for the immigrant Visas to become available (I-485 and I-130 can be filed together along with parole (I-131) and EAD if you decide to do so). However sibling cases can take years since you will have to wait for immigrant Visa numbers quota to be made available before you can file I-485 (sometimes as many as 15 to 20 years or more) depending upon the country.

Take caution when sponsoring siblings. It will take years for them to immigrate. But once you have filed I-130 for them, getting a non-immigrant visa can become a problem.

At this stage, only I-130s needed. No need for attorneys.
Parents should get their GCs within 12 months.
Siblings should get their GCs in 12 to 15 years.
