First, I would like to apologize for opening a new thread! But, since Greenlove's views were posted under two different threads (patienceGC hates Hindi and patienceGC.. you are losing respect) I decided to open a new one.

========== quote from desi485's post===============
everybody knows all this sambhars and idli hate HINDI.
they want telugu or tamil as a national lang (use your brains morons). some have refuse to speak hindi............we have all right to kill them.
-------------------------Desi485
-----------------------------------the man of the universe.

Hey have you notice guys all this sambhars and idli have no sense of dress-up. have you seen the way they dress themself. most of the time i feel shame as an indian when i see this kind of idiot.,,, most of the time their looks are funny........lol
and sometimes it is so funny to observe their sense of dress up.

=========================================

Desi485,

No one wants Telugu or Tamil as the national language, moron! We are happy with English as the common language. After reading your post it became quite apparent why you would resist that move too, for it is very clear you can’t speak or write in English even if someone held a gun to your head!

Or, should I have written …

Desi485,

No one want telugu or tamil as a national lang, moron! We happy with English as comon language. After read your post, it become aparaent why you resist english…as you cant spoke english if some hold gun to your hed

If you intend to improve your english, here are a few pointers:

Have you guys noticed (use proper tense) these (not this) sambhars and idlis have no dress sense (not sense of dress-up). Have you seen the way they dress themselves (not themself). Most of the times (not time … most automatically means you are talking about something in plural .. check the meaning of plural if you need to) I feel ashamed (not feel shame) as an Indian when I see this kind of an idiot. Most of the time (again times… say after me .. times) their looks are funny and sometimes it is so funny to observe (hmmm .. huge words huh) their dress sense (not sense of dress up)

Assuming you have a good “sense of dress-up”, I can imagine others’ reaction when you open your mouth and say a few words! And, the next time you see some sambhars and idlis having a bad “sense of dress-up”, please don’t “feel shame” as an Indian. Instead, kindly feel some compassion (at this point dictionary is a must) and take those sambhars and idlis aside and show/educate them on how to dress better. After all, we sambhars and idlis are Indians too! Please have mercy on us, Oh! Man of the Universe!.

Let us move on to Greenlove …
Dear Mr./Ms Greenlove,

=====quote from Greenlove's post===================
4. Going in eleveator with 10 other people and talking in Tamil, telgu, etc etc

5. 10 people eating In a break room and it smells for atleast 4 hrs afterwords from spices.

===========================================

Are you trying to say that we will never find people who will speak in Hindi, in an elevator and that north indian dishes aren’t spicy? Agreed that you didn’t say “10 sambhars and idlis” in your point #5. But, #4 sends your post gravitating towards sambhars and idlis.

I have found (and cringed) numerous people having a technical discussion in Hindi while in the work place! And, in general, Indian food is spicy and leaves the room smelling of spices for hours afterward. Some will find it offensive just as some would the smell of Corned beef. Sure, we should watch the spicy nature of our food but I don’t think we should go out of the way and completely avoid it.

It is not hating of Hindi that makes one a non-Indian but hating of Indians does. Also, the name of our country is not “Hindia” but “India”. I hope the meaning of secularism gets extended to the languages too.

Greenlove, not every north indian hates south indians. But, there are quite a few! Needless to say that there are quite a few south indians who hate north indians and call them as "daal & sabji". Quotes from my experience :

* You are the first sophisticated south indian that I have seen who can speak hindi ( It is beyond my comprehension as to how sophistication gets equated to knowledge of a particular language and specifically hindi )

* In an apartment of 4 (two hindi speakers and 2 tamil speakers), "How come you don't know Hindi despite having two hindi speaking roommates?"

Do you think the other two would have been asked the same question with tamil substituted for Hindi? See, it is this kind of incidents that makes one wonder ... Just like many americans who don't have a clue about other countries there are many indians who don't even know that there are certain regions where Hindi is not spoken (at least not the most spoken language). And, yet, people question as to why some have so much love for their language!

Basically, this problem boils down to xenophobia...

Mr. Rajaram,

You being so mature in thoughts, I'd request to not let one fish corrupt the whole pond (meaning thereby, one guy hating whole Southerners and vice versa, pl. don't let that change ur opinion about we all being freom same homeland). I know u r too smart to get deflected by such misplaced ideology guys, but still thought I will mention it.

I am myself placed in a good situation, coz though being from Delhi (Haryana), my wife is a wonderful all-region cook too. We make, besides regular veg. North India food, almost all South delicacies at home, we love Maha/Guj/Rajasthan food (what with n number of friends from that region). I think that covers three regions of India. The only thing that we don't eat is meat, fish and sea food and that's why no particular affiliations/expertise for eastern/coastal food (no offense meant to anybody there).

I thought I'll brag about this food thing to bring home the point that food or dress doesn't make what u r. You r what u r from ur ideologies and bringing-up.

All North Indians are not alike

Mr Rajaram

Thank you for putting this chauvinist in his place. All North Indians are not alike. I am a Punjabi Delhiite, and have some wonderful memories of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala and have utmost respect for the people of the southern states of India.

A moron remains a moron regardless of where he or she is from.

hey desi485

One of the main diff between tamil and hindi speaking guys is
(as far as I know), whenever a tamil guy meets someone from India for the first time, he or she doesnt start the conversation in tamil. Only after he/she comes to know that the other person is also from the same region, they will converse in tamil. But the case is opposite with Hindi speaking guys. They just start to converse in Hindi without even knowing you.

This is just my opinion and experience.:(

prajaram !!!

This is the Original message i posted before . prajaram just cut just two lines. Read this First tell me what I said wrong. didn't you understand what ETC ETC means

It really Don't bother me how People look. how they dress. But there are some Common sence some people can apply.

I have few Instances Please don't take it personally Please Learn from them.

1. Wearing Sports Shoes( Specially White in color) under dress pants and tie on.

2. Wearing White socks under the Office trousers..

3. smelling Bad becuase --> No deordant

4. Going in eleveator with 10 other people and talking in Tamil, telgu, etc etc

5. 10 people eating In a break room and it smells for atleast 4 hrs afterwords from spices.

6. Sharing the ciggrate in front of other smokers.

7. two or more people drinking SODA from same CAN.

8. Forgetting to flush the toilet or not washing the hands.

DESI 485 Looks doesn't matter only thing matters are the 8 things I mention above.

sorry greenlove...

if my post appeared to distort the contents of yours. It was not my intention. Either I must have not paid attention to "etc etc" or the usage of tamil and telugu must have automatically steered me to thinking that you were just talking about southerners.

What I failed to mention in my previous post was that the first 2 points were quite applicable to many south indians. I have done it myself; I just didn't know at that time that tennis shoes don't go well with formal or semi-formal attire. And since I know that it is something that we should (not in a strict sense) change, I didn't take it personally as you asked us to.

Sorry for the confusion about the top - 8 :)

-Palaniappan Rajaram

PS: dma_va, stuka and other friends from the north ... your posts certainly warmed my heart as it gave me an "Indian" feeling as opposed to a "regional Indian" one. It is just that I so crave that we Indians feel as Indians and as one with different cultural backgrounds.

ya, why did you?

I can never understand what motivates people to join these flame wars. I can identify with 2 people starting to insult each other, but why does everyone else have to join in the fight? Maybe you think you are standing up for the guy you think is right, and as soon the person you think is wrong reads your post, s/he will quickly realize how wrong s/he was and apologize.. Ya right!!
Might I remind everyone that this board is for immigration related topics and anything else is OT. 2 people flaming each other is tolerable, but so many messages in a day is ridiculous.
I know people are not going to stop getting involved in a mud slinging fight, but I just want to point out that it's counter-productive

Jayesh

rajaram kudos

Very thoughtful posts by all except for geen-love who for some reason seems to spew hate.

Notice this? All the non chavunistic posts ( regardless of the region the writer originates) are better written, concise and display a good English grammar and syntax.

Maybe it is the lack of a good command over English has some association with chavunism regarding one's own language. Good case for English to be the official language with all other languages(the 15 in the constitution) having equal status.
After all even the nation's president prefers to answer questions posed to him in Hindi in English ( what else could a Rameshwaram born chennai educated person do)

What I see in GL's post is pure, unadulterated and stinking hate! Nothing less.

1. Please stop putting Bindi when wearing western outfits. It absolutely makes you look stupid. and please no crap about our customs....

2. Please start wearing deodrant when going to gym. Also stop wearing chappal on the treadmill.

Thanks!

I'm sure you'd advise your Jewish friends to stop wearing their crown caps when they dress in business attire, too? Or how about those muslim women wearing headscarves to work? You have a problem with that as well? If Gwen Stefani can wear a bindi and try to look hip, then so can all the Usha's, Sangeetha's, Latha's, Munima's and Karupaayi's.

Apply deodrants when goin to the gym?? Man!! Why do you go to a fitness center (btw, in America, we call it the fitness center)? To admire yourself in front of the mirror and smell nice? There is something called a "locker room" where you can go and take a shower after the workout sessions.

Why don't you take your "friendly" suggestions and shove 'em far up your ass where the rest of your shit is -- I would have suggested your head, but I get the feeling it is already packed with shit with no room left for more!!!

America is a free country and people here thrive on personal freedom. If you don't like what they are doing, then stop looking at the face with a bindi, stop smelling your south Indian friends when they are at the "gym", and stop looking at their feet when they are running on treadmills -- unless, of course, you plan on falling at their feet and seek their blessings.

ok...........i dont now english............at least i am not from south india and i dont smell samber or idli.............have you ever think how you guys make think other people abt indian............shame on you southis(only non-civilized southis)

i agree with green love............you know how to express feelings.........i wanted to express same thoughts but couldn't.........may be i am not good at english or a worst writer.....but still i am the man of the universe.....desi-485

DESI485.

I think you are doing Ok with your ENGLISH.
This is the Right Place to learn ENGLISH. IF you write something wrong with Syntax or grammar people here will let you know right away. That’s Good thing at least people are helpful here. Thanks Guys.

Nobody is perfect. I suggest you to keep writing. Don't care what people say but be little more positive.

I did all my Schooling in SHIMLA in Himachali (Language of HP), then I Learnt Hindi and English after 10th Grade. Then I went to IIT, People use to make fun of my ENGLISH. I can barely speak one single correct statement in English. Nobody wants to be friend with me because of English but by end of 4th year I learnt sufficient English.
I never gave up.

Whoever is making fun of your English, take that as an Inspiration to learn more.

Good spirit Green_Love,

Refining linguistic and ethical skills could be a stupendous combination for u.

Kai-zen.

I don't understand why people from north are against south indians. Lets look at some statistics. In india hindi speaking states are most under developed. Uttarpradesh, madhyapradesh and bihar were split recently ( No harmony among the people who speak the same language). Since gaining independence india always had a north indian prime minister except for one term. Look how much singapore, malaysia, china and thailand's economy developed during the last 50 years and look at india. Look at what these north indians did to india. Jawahar lal nehru made friendship with russia instead of USA. Gandhi split india and instead of asking muslims to leave and go to pakistan allowed them to stay. Indira gandhi while in power asked all multinational companies to leave india and never cared about improving ecnomy.
There are several instances where north indians screwed up the whole nation.

Note to north indians.., if you still don't start liking south indians then you guys are no better than pakistanis.

Its better for india to split based on the states. At least then there will be some competition between them and then economic progress.

Jv14...

Dividing country doesn't make any sense either. Look at Nepal, an independent country. They are not able to make progress either inspite of enjoying independence for last 500 ( england never ever ruled Nepal) years.

Many many bad things are in our blood, our thinking couldnot rectify it. May be some generations are necessary to upgrade ourself. Its not about North India or South India or some particular states , its just because of me, you and all........our way of thinking. Whole reason is screwed up. Nepal, Sirlanka, B'desh , Pakaistan all south aisa are screwed up inspite the best brain in the world.

This is what SUX.
