son (GC-holder) needs to change name

I am about to submit my N400, and my GC-holder, 12-year-old son needs to change his name.
Could anyone tell me when is the best time to change his name?
1) Now, before I submit mine, so that I can put his new name on my N400 or 2) when we apply passport for him, or
3)it doesn't matter since we need to pay the court fee anyway?

I don't know but it sounds like it will be better to do it after since this process is for you now, then when it comes to get his passport etc you can do his. But I have no experience with this so I might not have the correct answer for what is easier.
