Somebody trashed the April spreadsheet

Someone today morning around 4-6AM has done this. Good thing that Google Spreadsheets has a revision tracking and I have reverted back. However if anyone has done changes since this morning has been lost. The changes since this morning for all sheets (months) would have been lost.

Do we have a spreadsheet vandal amongst us? I wonder what is achieved by trashing this tool...maybe someone got his butt handed to them by USCIS, and got mad at the spreadsheet of progress...awful...

Man, while I am not a big fan of people venting out at fora like this, I really should say that I had a hilarious laughter after seeing this one. AlSouthner, that was one heckuva hilarious posting, dude. At least makes the loss, less painful, you know. FunTastic. :)

That's awesome, pal. Also, do you think one of us can volunteer to just keep mailing the entire spreadsheet to an email account in Excel format (from Google Docs), so that we can reinstate it easily? Just a thought, but as Google Docs has a revision-tracking, it is always there....Just a thought.

That's too bad....Why would anyone want to trash such a wonderful spreadsheet?
Its good that Google maintains prior version.

Google's revision tracking is extensive and as long as their servers do not crash and lose data, we should be ok. I could have restored without any loss i.e. manually copy the delta before the loss, but since it was only recently deleted, I guess not many people would have made changes.

Also as the owner of the document, I could restrict changes to only those with gmail account, but I guessed not many people would want to login just to edit.

Thanks, rpranesh, that's great news that you were able to resolve it. I think the spreadsheet is a super tool for providing really objective information. Despite this upsetting episode, I do think overall that the open access probably encourages more sharing of information. I hope the deletion was just a boneheaded mistake on the part of the perpetrator and not deliberate vandalism after all.

ditto. This tool was better than any antianxiety med I could have taken during this process and I'm sure it'll continue to be helpful to those who come after us. Thank you rpranesh for starting and maintaining the tracker.

Guys,

I might have identified who the vandal is..he is unhappy with their USCIS. Since this is an open source, maybe it shouldn't be so, someone might need to put a password and see that only people with good intentions get to use it.

Ah! But how do you identify good intentions on the 'net? Maybe this guy's day job is grafitti artist..
